Profibus Solutions
Profibus is a standardized global open network communication system with one of the largest installed bases - well over 2 million to date - in factory automation. It allows all automation devices, sensors, actuators, PLCs, etc to communicate with each other over a single bus. Profibus was developed for high-speed communication and fast cyclic updates up to 12Mbits per second.

Woodhead Industries is an active member of PROFIBUS International. For more information on PROFIBUS, go to www.us.profibus.com or www.profibus.com.

Brad PROFIBUS Product Overview
Brad automation solutions for PROFIBUS include cordsets, receptacles, field attachable connectors, I/O modules, PC & PLC interfaces, gateways, diagnostic tools and simulation software. Applications include supervisory HMI messaging, real-time control, bridging networks & devices, physical connections in harsh environments and I/O communications.

I/O Modules
BradControl IP67 I/O Modules for PROFIBUS
The BradControl family of I/O modules provides a reliable solution for connecting industrial controllers communicating on industrial networks to I/O devices. Both in-cabinet and on-machine harsh environment applications are supported.

In-Cabinet:
The BradControl Block I/O system is an effective way to connect industrial I/O devices to a PLC or PC controller over PROFIBUS. The BradControl interface solution is comprised of a network adapter and up to 32 expansion modules mounted in an enclosure close to the field devices.

On-Machine:
BradControl I/O modules provide a reliable solution for connecting industrial controllers communicating on PROFIBUS to I/O devices in harsh environments. Rated for IP67 environments, BradControl I/O modules can be machine mounted and are able to withstand areas where liquids, dust or vibration may be present.

    Power Media
Power is supplied to the active modules via a 5-pole Mini-Change connector. Two of the contacts are used to provide power to the module's electronic circuits and any input devices such as proximity switches. A separate and isolated power circuit is provided via another two contacts. This is used for output devices only and is not required on input only modules. This second supply should be controlled via the machine's safety systems to ensure that no outputs are activated during operator interface with the machine.

    Diagnostics
Diagnostic D-Sub connectors effectively reduce installation, connection and troubleshooting time with their unique design.

    Network Interface Cards
Connect a PC-based application (soft PLC, HMI, SCADA, operator interface) to a PROFIBUS network. Computer bus formats supported include Universal PCI (3.3V/5V), USB, PCMCIA, PC/104, ISA, CompactPCI, VME and embedded.

    Communication Software
Software tools enable a fast integration of industrial networks and your application.

    Gateways
BradCommunications gateways allow the integration of PROFIBUS with other networks and devices easily and seamlessly and are available for a multitude of applications.

Multi-protocol intelligent gateway - the applicom GATEway is a configurable stand-alone intelligent gateway that allows plant-floor devices to communicate and to interoperate simultaneously with each other through Ethernet TCP/IP, Serial and Profibus networks. The applicom GATEway performs all communication tasks to exchange data between devices by running automatic read/write cyclic functions. By running 20 different protocols simultaneously, the applicom GATEway allows you to set up more than 20,000 different combinations to create industrial architectures such as data translator, data concentrator and industrial firewall.

Simple gateway adapters - the Direct-Link family of gateways is designed to connect two different industrial networks in an easy and cost-effective way. No programming is necessary; the gateway transfers cyclically I/O data between two networks according to the user configuration.

    I/O Simulation Software
PICS Simulation software tests and validates your control program and associated software applications and acts as a training tool for operators before the system goes operational.

    Save time and money
  • faster startups - typically save up to 30% of the overall project programming, installation and debugging time

  • eliminate software bugs earlier in the project

  • locate and correct software problems 10 to 20 times faster in a simulated environment

  • reduce downtime by installing tested and proven software

  • Reduce project risk
  • minimize project scheduling and cost uncertainties associated with debugging control logic problems

  • identify and correct problems before they cause delays and cost over runs

  • Improve operator training
  • operators can gain valuable experience running production on the "live" control system in a simulated environment

  • training sessions can include emergency scenarios that would be too dangerous using the actual equipment
