Brad Harrison® Diagnostic D-Sub Connector for Profibus
Micro & Mini-Change Connectors
Brad Harrison® Diagnostic D-Sub Connector for Profibus
QUESTION: Can this connector be used on stranded cable?
ANSWER: The connector is designed for use with solid core cable. It can be made to work properly with some versions of stranded cable, but care must be taken not to sever the copper strands. In the future we plan to offer a solution for stranded wire as well.
QUESTION: Which signals are measured at which pin? What kinds of values are measured?
ANSWER: The Brad Harrison DB-9 diagnostics connector measures the "A" line (Pin #8) and "B" line (Pin # 3) absolute signal levels, their amplitudes as well as the A-B signal level differences. Impedance values are not being measured on the connector rather the absolute voltage values are measured and analyzed.
QUESTION: How are the various signal levels measured?
ANSWER: The signals on the "A" and "B" lines as well as the resistor divider network are compared with a number of fixed voltage level measurements. These levels are then "measured" via comparators residing inside the connector. It then uses these values as inputs for the comparator to make the decisions on the GO/NO GO levels. The connector does not interfere these line levels and does NOT disturb the signal!
QUESTIONS: What is the power consumption of the Profibus DB-9 Connector? What is its minimum operating voltage?
ANSWER: The operating voltage range of the connector is 4.0 - 5.5 Volts. The DB-9 diagnostic connector has a maximum power consumption when all LEDs are ON of 25mA. It is recommended that that the Profibus devices have available at least 90mA at the 5V output (Pin #6-termination power). What is common amongst Profibus devices is a 5V power supply supplied through Pin #6 through an 8-10 Ohm current-limiting resistor. However if your device can only drive a maximum of 10mA the voltage on the DB-9 at power up can drop below 4V during the power up cycle. If this is the case the controller on board the diagnostic connector resets and self-starts.
Micro & Mini-Change Connectors
QUESTION: Does Daniel Woodhead still offer the Mini-Change Swinger Pushbutton Switch?
ANSWER: Yes, #55501, 55502, 55503 and 55504 are still available. Contact Customer Service for details.
QUESTION: Are Swinger Pushbuttons available with maintain contact switches?
ANSWER: No, only momentary contact switches are offered.
QUESTION: Do you offer a 4 pole version of the Mini-Change attachable connector?
ANSWER:Yes, #1A4000-34, 1A4002-34 and 1A4006-34 are available. See the "Product News" section on our home page.
QUESTION: How do I mate together two Mini-Change cordsets that both have internal thread couplers?
ANSWER: By using a threaded union: #55-0426 for 2 thru 6 pole A-size connectors, #55-0466 for 6 thru 8 pole B-size and #55-0496 for 9, 10 and 12 pole C-size.
QUESTION: What part numbers can you bring up on E-Cat?
ANSWER: Most Mini-Change, Single-Key Micro-Change, Dual-Key Micro-Change and Nano-Change connectors (both single-ended and double ended), receptacles and field attachables. At this time, DeviceNet, Profibus, Industrial Ethernet and Multi-Ports are yet yet available via the E-Cat.
QUESTION: From your catalog, it's hard to tell if longer length versions of the Quick-Change are available. Can this be done?
ANSWER: Definitely! Please contact Customer Service or Technical Support for assistance.
QUESTION: Do your molded connectors carry the CE mark as it applies to the low-voltage directive?
ANSWER: No. According to the European Commission, because our connectors are considered components, it is not correct for us to apply the CE mark.
QUESTION: Does Daniel Woodhead offer male to male cordset assemblies?
ANSWER: Only for Sensor - Actuator networks.
QUESTION: Are cordsets available in lengths greater than those shown in your catalog?
ASNWER: Yes, please contact Customer Service or Technical Support for details.
QUESTION: Does Daniel Woodhead offer "Mil. Spec" connectors?
ANSWER: No, we do not.
QUESTION: Does Daniel Woodhead offer bulk cable for sale?
ANSWER: Yes. Several different types are available. The minimum order quantity is 250 ft. Contact Technical Support for details.
